Innovative Online Tool for Technical Trade

Summary

Prosys has developed in co-operation with Atoy Group an innovative online tool for automotive technical trade and workshop operations. The new online tool allows the spare part retailer or mechanic to find the right parts fast and efficiently using a car registration number or a spare part number. Using the system workshops can improve their services by offering customized maintenance and repair services. The system can be integrated into ERP systems and sends purchase orders from workshops to wholesalers and onward to importers automatically.

System Features

The new online tool allows the spare part retailer or mechanic to find the right parts fast and efficiently using a car registration number or a spare part number. Using the system workshops can improve their services by offering customized maintenance and repair services based on information available about individual vehicle. The system sends purchase orders from workshops to wholesalers and onward to importers, and can also be integrated into their ERP systems. The newest feature added to the system is the online and mobile portal, which enables a personal customer to buy the right parts to his car as well as to reserve a service time based on the offer calculated by the portal.

Technologies and Methods

The technical implementation of the system is based on the LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) and Zend Framework. Backend systems use SOAP and XML technologies for data transfer over internet between spare parts databases. In browser user interfaces real time functions have been implemented by AJAX techniques using JQuery and Prototype libraries. In addition mobile user interfaces use JQuery Mobile library. For corporate intranet system that previously has been browser based, an iPhone application was developed, so that up-to-date information is available to all employees during all times.

In the project agile methods are used which means very close co-operation between the customer and the supplier. Software tools and infrastructure of both Prosys and Atoy Group are combined in the project, for example the high availability virtualization technology and server facilities of Prosys are used. Co-operation continues both in the area of professional trading solutions and personal customer portal, as further functional and technical development is active.

The solution is an innovative approach to improving the quality of service and to achieving cost savings by integrating the information from different databases. During the project Prosys has not only provided system development services, but also understood the business and ERP integration needs and has thus been able to help in making the right decisions. Prosys has proven to be a very innovative and productive partner in the design and development phases. I especially appreciate their proactive attitude.
